Co-operators in Kenyans joined the rest of the world in marking the 93rd International Cooperative Day better known in Kenya as Ushirika Day on Saturday, July 4th, 2015. The Day is marked annually to reflect on achievements of the co-operative movement. Its aim is to raise awareness on co-operatives and promote the movement’s success and ideals of international solidarity, economic, efficiency, equality and world peace.

The Day whose theme was "Choose Co-operative, Choose Equality" was marked in all the 47 counties while the national event was presided over at the Uhuru Park, Nairobi by Industrialization & Enterprise Development Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohamed who passed president Uhuru Kenyatta’s greetings to the co-operators. Mr. Adan appreciated the role that co-operative societies in Kenya play in our national economy saying that currently, 50% of Kenyans are in co-operative movement which apart from playing a key role in growth and development, helps to reduce poverty, creates employment opportunity and also helps  in achieving the much targeted Vision 2030.

Mr. Adan also urged the Sacco Society Regulatory Authority (SASRA) to continue ensuring that Co-operatives and Saccos are operated with the highest level of professionalism and integrity to build confidence among investors and savers.

Our Sacco, Airports Sacco, was applauded again by winning the men’s Volleyball Cup at the Ushirika Cup two years in a row. Our National Chairman Mr. George Karanja, Airports Sacco Chief Executive Officer Mr. Gideon Kipsoi, and our Directors: Mr. Bwire Okochi, Miss Khadija Karume, Mr. Isaiah Lusweti together with our members joined other co-operators to celebrate this event at the Uhuru Park.
